Role Summary
A Research Technologist in the Immobilisation Science & Technology team will provide technical support in the labs and rig hall, deliver non-active technical projects, manage documentation, conduct literature reviews, analyse data using Excel, and produce technical reports.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in lab and rig projects and desk-based projects.
- Collaborate with teams on experimental work packages, meeting safety, cost, quality, and time standards.
- Contribute to developing experimental work programmes with technical leads and project managers.
- Plan and organise practical work for smooth delivery.
- Interpret and present results, authoring technical memoranda and reports.
- Communicate effectively through written reports and presentations to customers and at conferences.
- Maintain good working relationships with customers and external collaborators.
- Ensure high safety and quality standards are consistently maintained.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in chemistry or a related subject.
- Knowledge and experience of nuclear encapsulation technologies and project work.
- Proficiency in grout mixing and product quality assessment techniques (SQEP).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to write quality reports independently.
- Highly organised, able to plan ahead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Team player, able to work collaboratively with capability managers, technical leads, technicians, project managers, and compliance teams.
- Ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
- Membership of a relevant professional institute.
- Good working knowledge of cement chemistry, grout development, encapsulation systems for nuclear waste, and support to Sellafield Ltd encapsulation plants.
