Do you have good customer service and communication skills? Would you like to represent the Science Museum Group, engage with our visitors and support with their enquiries?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) encompasses the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum, the Science & Industry Museum, the National Science & Media Museum, Locomotion and the Science and Innovation Park, making us the world's greatest alliance of science museums. The Group Contact Centre is the primary point of contact for visitors, retail customers, and organised groups, including schools. Handling thousands of inbound enquiries each month across all six sites, the team delivers high-quality customer service to enhance every visitor's experience and help bring our museums and collections to life.

To support this work, we are now recruiting a Contact Centre Advisor to join on a permanent contract. This will be a part time role, based at the Science Museum in London for the following working hours: 10 Hours per week - 5 hours per day (usually 10-2) every Saturday and Sunday.

About the role

As Contact Centre Advisor, you will deliver inspiring service across all areas of the Science Museum Group. You will handle inbound calls and emails to support visitors and organised groups as they plan and book their visits. Your responsibilities include fixing booking glitches, responding to online retail inquiries (such as building orders), and supporting access to the Group's collections and internal teams and services. As you progress, you will receive training to develop your knowledge across all aspects of the contact centre. You will be supported to expand on relevant skills, and to take pride in representing the Group by being a point of contact. You’ll become part of a ten-person team offering multi-skilled support across all six SMG sites. This collaborative approach ensures that we deliver seamless service and support across all areas. Due to the hybrid nature of the role, three out of four shifts will be based onsite at the Science Museum in London, while the remaining one will be worked remotely from home.

About you

We're keen to see applications from candidates who bring motivation, professionalism and genuine care to every interaction whether face‑to‑face, online or over the phone. You'll need to communicate clearly and warmly, handle enquiries with patience, and use IT systems confidently to find solutions and share accurate information. A proactive attitude is essential, both in problem‑solving and in learning from colleagues. You'll be balancing multiple tasks, supporting your team and helping ensure the smooth running of the service. Curiosity matters too: we want people who stay engaged with the museum's services so they can offer visitors consistently positive experiences. Experience in an administrative role especially one involving organisation, record‑keeping or managing information would be a valuable addition. If you have strong customer service skills, enjoy working collaboratively and can manage varied duties in a fast‑paced environment, we'd be excited to hear from you.
