About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is home to the world\’s leading collection in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. Our mission is to inspire futures by helping people understand the role of science in shaping our lives.

As part of this mission, our retail teams play an important role in continuing the visitor journey, offering an inspiring and seamless shopping experience across our museum outlets.

We are now looking for two new team members to join our Retail team at the Science Museum:

  • Retail Stockroom Assistant – 21 hours per week, fixed term until March 2026
  • Retail Sales Advisor – 15 hours per week, permanent

About the roles

Whether supporting customers on the shop floor or helping behind the scenes, you\’ll be part of a friendly, motivated team delivering an excellent retail experience.

As a Retail Sales Advisor, you will engage with visitors to help them find and purchase products, providing warm, knowledgeable, and efficient service. You\’ll also ensure that our merchandise is attractively presented and that stock is replenished to maintain high visual standards.

As a Retail Stockroom Assistant, you\’ll ensure the smooth running of our stock operations—receiving, processing, and organising deliveries, maintaining accurate stock levels, and ensuring that products are safely stored and displayed. This role involves some physical activity, including lifting boxes, working with ladders, and offloading deliveries.

In both roles, you will help us maximise sales, maintain excellent standards of presentation and housekeeping, and create a welcoming environment for all our visitors.

About you

You will bring:

  • A passion for delivering outstanding customer service and creating memorable visitor experiences.
  • The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to take on a variety of retail tasks.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of presentation and organisation.
  • For the Stockroom Assistant role, the ability to safely carry out manual handling tasks as part of day-to-day duties.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Previous experience in a retail or stockroom environment.
  • An interest in science, museums, or learning experiences for visitors.

  • Work/life balance – 27 days annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays, and flexible working policies.
