Job Opportunity: Microbiology Consultant

On behalf of a busy NHS Trust in West Midlands, we are seeking an experienced Microbiology Consultant available for ongoing onsite cover.

  • Duration: Ongoing role, initially 3 months, with potential extension if mutually agreed.
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • On-call commitment: 1 in 4 telephone on-call, including weekends onsite.
  • Candidate eligibility: Candidates not on the specialist register will also be considered.

The postholder will participate in providing a comprehensive clinical medical microbiology and infection prevention & control service across the Trust. Responsibilities include:

  • Advising on appropriate specimens
  • Involvement in specimen analysis and result interpretation
  • Managing patient care through clinical liaison
  • Providing antibiotic advice and supporting antibiotic stewardship programs
  • Offering guidance on infection prevention & control measures

Additional duties include participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota for microbiology and infection prevention & control advisory services across two hospitals within the Trust.
