National Locums are working on behalf of a Health and Social Care Trust based in Northern Ireland looking for a Medical Lead/Responsible Officer.

A Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland is seeking short-term cover for a period of 6 months whilst they appoint into a permanent post. This is a senior medical lead role and will require candidates with significant experience.

The role is part-time covering 4-5 PAs a week and how these PAs are delivered is flexible and can be negotiated. Much of the role can be completed remotely however there would be a small number of in person meetings that would need to take place over the 6 month period.

The Medical Lead and Responsible Officer will carry out the role of RO for Responsible Officers working in the independent sector and for any medical staff. The ideal candidate will provider senior leadership as Regulator across health and social care services, working across sectors. You will demonstrate a high level of diplomacy, assertiveness and ability to undertake challenging conversation. Full job description available on application.

  • Previous experience working within a medical leadership role – Clinical Director level or equivalent and above.
  • Previous experience working as an RO or evidence of undertaking significant work as a medical appraiser.
  • Previous experience applying the Maintaining High Professional Standards procedure.
  • GMC licence to practice and entry on the specialist register.
  • Proven record of leadership working in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proven leadership, communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical and medical governance in particular the Responsible Officer Regulations, quality improvement and the Maintaining High Professional Standards Framework.
  • Knowledge of HSC system in Northern Ireland.
  • Previous experience of participation in healthcare inspections or reviews as medical peer reviewer.
  • Previous experience in a patient-based research and/or Quality Improvement.
  • Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
