The role is 28 hours per week. We are seeking a Board Support and Compliance Officer to deliver top quality executive support to the Board and Committees, to act as the primary point of contact with the Library’s Board, to undertake all the Board related administration and to manage the demands of the complex compliance environment for the organisation. This is an exacting, intense and varied role where the right candidate will focus on first class delivery of Board support and the monitoring and management of the Library’s regulatory responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in Board support and governance. This is a crucial, highly demanding role which requires excellent organisational skills, diplomacy and professionalism. You will report to the National Librarian and Chief Executive and provide support in relation to all Board and Governance matters. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a proven track record of high-level minute taking. You will be able to multitask and meet set deadlines. Strong organisational skills, excellent interpersonal and project management skills are also essential, and it would be advantageous if experience had previously been gained within a cultural, educational or charity setting.
The Library’s plans for the coming years are ambitious. We need a Board Support and Compliance Officer who can contribute to that future with enthusiasm and skill.
Duties include:
- Act as the principal point of contact between the Library and Board Members, ensuring effective communication and engagement.
- Provide high‑quality secretariat support to the Board and its Committees, including:
- Planning meeting schedules
- Preparing agendas and coordinating high‑quality papers
- Taking accurate, professional minutes
- Maintaining action logs, decision records and reporting schedules
- Provide PA and administrative support to the Chair and other Board Members as required, including diary management, travel arrangements, expenses and budget monitoring.
- Support the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer on all Board, governance and compliance matters.
- Act as the first point of contact for internal auditors and manage the internal audit programme.
- Coordinate and schedule audit activity, ensuring clear terms of reference and timely delivery.
- Monitor progress against internal audit recommendations and provide assurance reports to senior management and the Audit Committee.
