The Agency for the Legal Deposit Libraries (ALDL) operates on behalf of five of the six UK Legal Deposit Libraries, these being the Bodleian Library at Oxford University, Cambridge University Library, the National Library of Scotland, the National Library of Wales, and Trinity College Dublin. We are a small friendly team whose purpose is to comprehensively identify and request in writing 5 copies of all publications printed in the UK that meet the criteria of the Joint LDL Collecting Policy. We unpack, sort, record and dispatch printed material to the Legal Deposit Libraries each week and provide data analysis and reports to aid in the collection of printed and electronic publications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receive, record, unpack and sort materials on arrival into ALDL operating area
Create, check, and amend bibliographical and holdings data in support of either received materials or in the generation of claims, through use of the ALDL IT system (V Smart), in accordance with directed standards and relevant documentation
Transfer materials from trolleys to individual tote boxes for each Legal Deposit Library (LDL) as part of the material recording process.
Prepare information to support dispatches and physically support the dispatch of all materials for delivery to the LDLs
Participate in specific programmes to maintain and enhance the quality of the Agency\'s supplier, holdings, and bibliographical records, in line with directed standards and relevant documentation
Check and amend, as appropriate, all supporting data in relation to recording transition of materials from print to electronic deposit
Support agency administration function through the updating of claim, receipt, and supplier data and through involvement in a full range of publisher enquiry processes, including direct communications with publishers.
Liaise and co-operate with colleagues to ensure that team and LDL requirements / priorities are met
Contribute to the continuous improvement of procedures, service standards, process guidelines, and training documentation
The ALDL is based at Marnin Way, Edinburgh, EH12 9GD.
If successful, you will be employed by The ALDL and will be subjectto their terms, conditions and pension scheme.
The post is full time and fixed term for 12 months.
