About the Role
The future of legal services lies in intelligent technology, agile processes, and client-first innovation. The Maples Group is investing in this future through our Innovation Group – a dedicated team that brings together ambitious individuals with a passion for innovation and technology. The Senior Legal Technologist operates with significant autonomy, leading workstreams and projects end-to-end. You are expected to work alongside Legal Technologists, influence solution design, and act as a subject matter expert in one or more technology domains. This is a mid-level role within the Innovation Group's career progression framework. You will report to the Head of Innovation and play a key role in shaping how the team delivers technology-driven solutions to lawyers and clients across the firm.
- Innovation Project Leadership: You will lead the design and delivery of Innovation projects from scoping through to implementation, taking ownership of workstreams end-to-end with moderate complexity. This includes evaluating vendor products and making recommendations to Innovation leadership on the adoption of new platforms and tools.
- Solution Design and Advisory: You will act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders on technology solutions, drawing on your expertise in one or more legal technology domains to influence solution design and ensure that implementations meet business requirements.
- Mentoring and Development: You will mentor and support the development of Legal Technologists within the team, helping them to build technical skills and navigate project delivery.
- Adoption and Training: You will drive adoption of new tools and processes across the business, designing and delivering training programmes, creating user documentation, and working closely with legal teams to embed technology into day-to-day practice.
- Strategy and Roadmap Contribution: You will contribute to team strategy and roadmap planning, helping to identify opportunities for technology-led improvement and shaping the direction of the Innovation Group's work.
- Research and Evaluation: You will keep abreast of advancements in emerging legal technologies, evaluate new products and solutions, and effectively communicate developments and recommendations to legal teams and the wider business.
EXPERIENCE
What You Bring
We welcome applications from candidates with 3-6 years of relevant professional experience in legal technology, legal innovation, or a related field. A bachelor's degree or higher in Law, Business, Computer Science, or a related discipline is expected.
- Essential skills and attributes:
- Demonstrable expertise in one or more legal technology domains (e.g., Legal GenAI, document automation, contract lifecycle management, AI-assisted review, workflow automation, or legal data analytics)
- Proven experience leading technology projects from inception through to delivery
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise and influence business stakeholders
- Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- A collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with a commitment to mentoring and knowledge sharing
- A commercial mindset and client-centric approach
- Desirable skills and attributes:
- Familiarity with vendor evaluation and procurement processes
- Experience with no-code/low-code development platforms
- Exposure to legal change management or process improvement methodologies
- Prior experience mentoring or coaching junior colleagues
