Job summary: We’re seeking a hands-on Lead Data Engineer & Actuarial Analyst to lead the rebuilding and enhancement of our data infrastructure supporting actuarial reserving models. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a small team, modernize data management practices, and collaborate closely with actuaries to drive improvements across the organization. You will play a central role in shaping data-driven decision-making and contribute to NHBC’s broader data transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team to deliver accurate data and reporting
  • Rebuilding and automating data flows using SQL, SSIS, and Power Query
  • Supporting actuaries with model enhancements and data automation
  • Designing processes for data extraction, reconciliation, and change control
  • Managing stakeholder communication across actuarial, finance, and risk departments
  • Mentoring junior team members and sharing best practices
  • Driving continuous improvements and contributing to organization-wide data projects

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Strong SQL and SSIS skills with experience managing large datasets
  • Proficiency with Power Query, Power BI, and Excel (including VBA)
  • Leadership or team management experience
  • Background in financial services, preferably insurance or actuarial data
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Bonus: Knowledge of Snowflake, R, Python, or actuarial reserving concepts
