We are a world-class visitor attraction and leading science research centre. We use the Museum\’s unique collections and our unrivalled expertise to tackle the biggest challenges facing the world today. We care for more than 80 million objects spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually and 16 million visits to our website.

About the role

The Natural History Museum is undergoing a transformation to deliver on its mission to create advocates for the planet, now and into the future.

Three mega-projects are currently underway: NHM Unlocked – which will see 38 million specimens rehoused over the next six years; NHM 150 – which will lead to the creation of six new galleries in the same time period; and our PBIF fund – which is investing unprecedented amounts in the Museum infrastructure.

With our first mega-project – the transformation of the Museum gardens – now complete, and works well underway at our new Science, Digitisation and Collection Centre in Berkshire, our planning has turned to the projects that will commence post-2031.

We are looking for an exceptional leader who can bring all of these strands together to ensure that we continue our mission as we push our science and grow our visitor numbers and create even more advocates for the planet.

About you

You will have experience of working and leading a complex programme as well as managing projects, with significant experience of working in a project management role delivering complex development projects, working with developers, funders and government sponsors through RIBA Stages through to completion.

You will be an accomplished stakeholder manager with experience of balancing competing demands for resources. You will need to have experience of developing business cases, bidding processes and following through with Gateway reviews, direct engagement with funders and project evaluation.

Hybrid working

We are working towards a vision where both people and planet thrive, and nothing gives a greater connection with this, than seeing first-hand, the visitors, scientific research and collections that all of our work is inspired by and working side by side with the teams delivering the visitor experience and events. We also recognise the benefits and flexibility that hybrid working brings. We operate a hybrid working model that requires regular, weekly attendance for this role, with the precise pattern of days on site and worked from home to be agreed with your manager.
