Overview
In this Consultant Gastroenterologist role at Yeovil District Hospital you will provide expert gastroenterology, hepatology and general medicine care across inpatient and outpatient settings. You will lead and support service development, contribute to governance and appraisal processes, and liaise with primary care and other specialties. The post emphasizes improving patient care through new initiatives, nurse-led endoscopy development, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration within a JAG‑accredited service.

Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage gastroenterology and general medical patients
- Oversee inpatient and outpatient care and respond to referrals from primary care and other specialties
- Provide supervision, management and training of junior medical staff
- Ensure governance and engage in annual Appraisal and revalidation
- Develop and support nurse endoscopy services
- Participate in MDT and pathology meetings
- See and treat a wide range of gastroenterology conditions in outpatient settings
- Contribute to service development within NHS budgeting context
- Take part in GI bleed on-call rota (approx. 1 weekday every 2 weeks and 1 weekend every 8 weeks)
- Maintain effective communication with colleagues, partners and external centres
- Deliver teaching and training to nursing staff and medical students
Key requirements
- MBBS and MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC license to practice
- Entry on GMC specialist register (CCT, CESR or European Rights) or within 6 months of interview date
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, General Medicine and Acute Medicine
- Ability to lead and develop the service and work across multidisciplinary teams
- Willingness to travel between sites (driving licence)
