Overview
In this Consultant Obstetrician role, you will lead fetal medicine initiatives within a three-site trust, joining a senior team dedicated to high-quality obstetric care. You will drive the development of the fetal medicine service, aligning with regional and national standards, while supporting training and governance activities. The post offers wide MDT collaboration, teaching opportunities, and a chance to shape care closer to patients’ homes. Responsibilities
- Provide clinical service in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine across three hospital sites
- Lead fetal medicine and obstetric governance, ensuring QA standards and national audits
- Develop and extend local service in line with regional and national requirements
- Collaborate with MDT and governance teams; oversee complaints, incidents and actions
- Deliver general outpatient clinics across main sites and select community hospitals
- Support and supervise junior colleagues in elective and emergency settings
- Participate in meetings, teaching, and continuing medical education (CME)
- Assist with on-call obstetric rota and acute obstetrics care
- Contribute to service planning, guidelines updates, and service audits
- Support A&E and acute medicine with patient flow and timely care
Key requirements
- UK CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or equivalent)
- Ability to advise on a broad range of obstetric problems (emergency and elective)
- Independent responsibility for obstetric and fetal medicine care
- Proficiency in independent fetal medicine ultrasound
- Capability to mentor juniors and lead a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with obstetric on-call duties and audit
- Full GMC registration and entry on Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or expected within 6 months)
- Evidence of teaching and educational supervision
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs and staff
