Overview
In this role you will work within the Clinical Health Psychology Service on the Critical Care unit to reduce psychological distress and improve quality of life for patients with physical illness. You will collaborate with the Critical Care MDT to develop psychological formulations and implement targeted interventions. The post supports training and supervision of trainees and junior staff, contributing to service development across the Black Country. This is a part-time, flexible post with cross-site opportunities and a focus on impact and compassionate care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct highly specialist psychological assessments for patients with complex conditions, including data integration and interpretation from multiple sources (e.g., neuropsychological testing)
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns and manage risk assessment and risk management for individuals
- Formulate and implement evidence-based psychological therapy plans in collaboration with patients and carers
- Deliver highly specialist psychological therapies for individuals, carers, families and groups, adapting formulations as needed
- Supervise Trainee Applied Psychologists and Band 7 Psychologists; contribute to CPD and teaching aligned with HCPC requirements
Key requirements
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied Psychology (or equivalent) as accredited by the BPS
- HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status
- Experience as a qualified applied psychologist across diverse client groups and care settings
- Trained in clinical supervision and supervision of doctoral trainees
- Commitment to ongoing CPD and professional development
- Compassionate and patient-centred approach
