The predicted salary is between 25760 - 27476 £ per year.

This role will work collaboratively with other tobacco dependency advisors to identify current smokers amongst patients admitted to West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. You will provide safe, well organized and evidence based Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) advice and support to those smokers identified. Where necessary, confirmation of abstinence will be confirmed by carbon monoxide breath testing and data will be collected to demonstrate the efficacy of the scheme. Travel is required within designated service location, including occasional regional travel.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the delivery of the trust-wide tobacco dependency treatment implementation plan.
  • Provide high quality stop smoking behavioural support and pharmacological advice in accordance with the NSCST (National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training) guidelines to those wishing to stop smoking.
  • Provide tobacco dependency treatment and support across the acute hospital to support the delivery of the service key performance and reporting indicators for tobacco dependency.
  • Maintain a high standard of work and prioritise own workload according to the needs of the service.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Training in Smoking Cessation or willingness to attend Level 2 NCST training - 1 day course.
  • NVQ Level 3 or working towards an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Desirable: Counselling Qualification or relevant experience of counselling.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Essential: Willingness to complete 10-15 hours shadowing with NRT advisor/prescriber.
  • Experience of working with people and communicating with clients with a range of backgrounds.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of relevant strategies and approaches to delivering an effective smoking cessation service.

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Essential: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.

Other Requirements:

  • Essential: Flexible approach to working patterns.
  • Desirable: Non-smoker or ex-smoker.
