Overview
In this role you join a large obstetrics & gynaecology Directorate to help maintain a high-volume, 24-hour service. You will work within a team of consultants and midwifery staff to deliver comprehensive care across subspecialties and share the workload, with opportunities to lead a special-interest area. The position includes a substantial labour ward presence and on-call duties, supporting service quality and clinical governance.
Responsibilities
- Share general workload with other obstetricians/gynaecologists
- Contribute to maintaining a high-quality 24-hour obstetrics and gynaecology service
- Take clinical lead in a designated area of special interest
- Help ensure ~60 hours of Consultant presence on the Labour Ward
- Collaborate with senior medical and nursing/midwifery staff to deliver care
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration at time of application
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- MD/PhD or equivalent medical qualification
- Further Higher degree (essential)
- Specialist Register or CCT due within 6 months of interview or CESR with GMC confirmation
- Current UK Registration and fitness to practise
- Good communication with patients and colleagues
- Ability to build rapport and negotiate
- Teamwork in multi-professional settings
- RCOG ATSM or equivalent with special interest experience (labour ward, high-risk pregnancy, fetal medicine, urogynaecology, etc.)
- Independent management of a Labour Ward
- Audit and research capability
