Overview

As Practice Manager at The Consulting Rooms GP Surgery, you will lead the practice’s daily operation, ensuring high-quality patient services and compliant, efficient processes.

You will oversee staff performance, financial planning, and governance to support NHS contracts and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership and management across the practice and line-manage admin/reception staff
  • Foster a positive, inclusive working environment and support recruitment, induction, training and retention
  • Conduct staff appraisals, manage attendance, disciplinaries and grievances in line with policies
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, appointment systems, and patient access arrangements
  • Develop, implement, and review practice policies, business continuity and risk management
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and contractors and oversee premises management
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, support financial planning with Partners and accountants
  • Maximise income through NHS contracts and enhanced services; oversee payroll and financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with NHS regulations, CQC, data protection, and information governance
  • Promote patient care excellence, monitor satisfaction, and address complaints per NHS procedures
  • Support strategy development, service improvements, and PCN participation
  • Oversee IT systems use, digital transformation initiatives, and system security
  • Ensure health and safety compliance and infection control where applicable
  • Key requirements
  • Previous experience as a Practice Manager in a GP practice
  • Experience managing staff including recruitment, appraisal, performance management and development
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting, and monitoring expenditure
  • Experience managing day-to-day operational services and service improvements
  • Experience handling patient complaints and conflict resolution
  • Desirable: experience managing CQC inspections and PCN involvement
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent with evidence of ongoing professional development in healthcare management
  • Desirable: management qualification or qualifications in Healthcare Management, BA/Finance/HR
