Overview
As a Consultant Community Paediatrician, you will support children and young people within the West Hertfordshire neurodevelopment pathway, focusing on autism assessments and related conditions. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team across three child development centres, collaborating with CAMHS, acute paediatrics, and social services to deliver autism and neurodevelopment services. You will lead neuro-disability initiatives and contribute to safeguarding, teaching, and multi-agency assessments. This role offers impact at scale within a supportive, inclusive NHS environment.
Responsibilities
- Assess children with neurodevelopment conditions (autism, ADHD, neuro-disabilities) within the wider child development team
- Lead and participate in multi-agency / multidisciplinary assessments
- Provide expert advice to GPs and other health professionals on neuro-disabilities and autism
- Attend meetings related to development of services and strategic planning within the medical team
- Advise social services and police on safeguarding matters; participate in safeguarding strategy meetings and case conferences; complete section 17 reports as needed
- Discuss referrals at weekly intake meetings to determine appropriate clinics
- Contribute to teaching and training for staff and trainees
- Work within the Neurodiversity Pathway and liaise with related services (Sensory Processing Service, CYP Neurodiversity Single Referral Service)
- Be available for on-call commitments and appropriate travel across West Hertfordshire
Key requirements
- Registered with GMC (Full)
- On the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview (CESR applicants must be on Specialist Register at appointment)
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- Competent to Higher Specialist Paediatric Training or equivalent
- Valid basic life support training
- Level 3 Safeguarding Training (Desirable)
- Willingness to teach trainees and all professional grades
- Experience in NHS settings (Desirable)
- Experience with assessment tools (ADOS/ADI-R/DISCO, Griffiths) (Desirable)
- Auditing / QI experience (Desirable)
- Ability to work independently and within a team; strong communication and decision-making skills
- Driver's license and access to a car for business use
- Teamwork and collaboration
