Overview

In this role you will lead a consultant-supported Heart Failure service across acute, outpatient, and community settings. You will manage patients with acute and chronic heart failure, and perform complex imaging (CT, MRI, echo) as part of a multidisciplinary team. You’ll run outpatient clinics, participate in Heart Failure MDTs and the Virtual Hospital, and supervise specialist nursing staff while contributing to service development and pathways expansion. This is anchored in a nationally recognised Heart Failure service with an award-winning Virtual Hospital, offering meaningful impact through digital care and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Manage acute and chronic heart failure across care settings
  • Deliver complex imaging including cardiac CT, MRI and echocardiography
  • Run outpatient cardiology and Heart Failure clinics
  • Participate in Heart Failure MDT meetings and Virtual Hospital rota
  • Triage Heart Failure referrals and support admission avoidance
  • Supervise and mentor specialist nursing staff and work with multidisciplinary teams
  • Contribute to Heart Failure pathway optimisation and service development
  • Support remote patient monitoring and frontline heart failure management
  • Collaborate with physiologists and community teams to integrate subspecialty services
  • Engage in virtual and community-based care expansion efforts

Key requirements

  • GMC registration with licence to practice
  • CCT in Cardiology (or within 6 months of interview) or Specialist Register inclusion
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • ability to provide specialist clinical opinion on acute cardiac conditions including emergencies
  • experience in Virtual Hospital management and heart failure
  • BSE accreditation in TTE / CMR level 3 / Cardiac CT level 2
