Overview

In this HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist role, you will lead the UK NEQAS Haematology scientific team and oversee delivery of high-quality EQA services. You will apply strong clinical Haematology knowledge within the UK to support survey material preparation, testing, data handling, and quality assurance processes. You will manage people, coordinate multiple workstreams, and translate complex data into reports that drive service development. This position offers exposure to quality management, data-driven decisions, and cross-functional collaboration to improve patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Line manage UK NEQAS Haematology scientific staff
  • Coordinate preparation and testing of survey material
  • Prepare accompanying paperwork and manage receipt/dispatch of survey material
  • Enter and verify participant data for analysis
  • Automated and manual bottling of whole blood, red cells, and plasma with checks
  • Monitor and order reagents and consumables
  • Validate new survey material or equipment
  • Maintain written and electronic result records
  • Investigate quality incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement changes
  • Lead and supervise a team delivering EQA Haematology services
  • Plan and manage multiple work streams to meet deadlines and standards
  • Interpret complex data, prepare scientific reports, contribute to service development

Key requirements

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • FIBMS in Haematology; MSc in appropriate subject
  • HCPC registration
  • Active CPD participation
  • Specialist knowledge of automated cell counting
  • Broad theoretical and practical knowledge of UK Haematology practice
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel; database experience
  • Experience coordinating day-to-day operations; managing priorities
  • Supervisory experience: leading teams, performance evaluation, appraisals
  • Desirable: experience in EQA services, EQA material preparation, data analysis, project management
