Overview

In this role you lead and develop clinical pharmacy services within the Watford General Hospital, supporting ward-based teams and ensuring safe, cost-effective, evidence-based prescribing. You supervise junior staff and enhance service delivery through governance, training, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. You will help drive continuous improvement in medicines use and contribute to policies and guidelines. This is an opportunity to shape emergency medicine pharmacy practice within a large NHS trust.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex medicines information to patients, carers and healthcare professionals with clear dosing and safety guidance.
  • Role model and support training for pharmacists, technicians, assistants and students, promoting Continuing Professional Development.
  • Contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols and prepare reports for healthcare committees.
  • Ensure safe medicines management, including drug error reporting, controlled drug checks, and compliance with legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Support audit and research activities to identify practice improvements and adherence to prescribing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and primary care teams to ensure continuity of care across hospital and community settings.

Key requirements

  • HCPC registered Pharmacist
  • Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Experience in clinical pharmacy services, medicines reconciliation, counselling, and screening drug charts/TTAs
  • System knowledge: Ascribe, Cerner EPR; experience providing advice and clinical interventions to doctors and nurses
  • Experience training pharmacy staff and delivering high-quality, cost-effective care
