Overview
As a Consultant Psychiatrist on Austen Ward, you will lead inpatient care for a male general adult unit and supervise junior doctors. You will drive high-quality assessment, treatment, risk management and multidisciplinary reviews within a progressive Trust focused on recovery and compassionate care. The role offers influence on service development and clinical practice, with opportunities to shape patient outcomes and staff education. Responsibilities
- Responsible for all patients on Austen ward
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and inpatient treatment
- Support staff in managing psychiatric emergencies
- Lead ward reviews, CPA reviews and multi-professional meetings
- Act as Responsible Clinician under MHA and provide evidence for tribunals/hospital hearings
- Perform risk assessments and participate in H-RAMM and MAPPA
- Provide medical leadership to the team
- Liaise with carers and other services
- Provide clinical/educational supervision to junior colleagues
- Contribute to clinical governance and service development
- Engage in teaching and training commitments
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education
Key requirements
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
- GMC Specialist Register or eligible within six months
- Approved clinician status or able to obtain within 3 months
- Section 12(2) MHA eligibility or able to obtain within 3 months
- Driving license or proposed alternative
- Excellent clinical knowledge and communication skills
- Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA AAC
