Overview
Experienced Cardiac Physiologist sought to lead the Cardiac Physiology Service within the Clinical Measurements Unit. You will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership, while maintaining an active advanced clinical role in highly specialised investigations. You will shape service delivery, workforce development, and pathways, and collaborate with partners to drive safe, high-quality diagnostics. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on clinical practice in a busy NHS setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical, professional and operational leadership for Cardiac Physiology service
- Maintain an active advanced clinical role undertaking and reporting highly specialised cardiac investigations
- Lead delivery of cardiac diagnostics including Echocardiography, Stress Echo, ECG, Ambulatory ECG, device clinics and implantation
- Oversee workforce development, competency, training and professional development
- Oversee service performance, capacity and diagnostic waiting times against national standards
- Lead clinical governance, quality assurance, risk management and continuous service improvement
- Support innovation, pathway redesign and sustainable cardiac services
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to improve patient care
Key requirements
- BSc Clinical Physiology Cardiology or equivalent qualification/experience
- Evidence of advanced specialist training within Respiratory Physiology
- Evidence of continued professional development relevant to cardiac diagnostics and leadership
- Significant experience as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist in a specialist diagnostic service
- Experience managing a Cardiac Physiology team and staff management including recruitment, appraisal, performance management, training and development
- Experience managing service performance, waiting lists, demand and capacity planning, and meeting national diagnostic standards
- Understanding of NHS performance standards (DM01, RTT) and clinical governance
- Experience with clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvement
- Knowledge of BSE accreditation and IQIPS and national professional standards
- Experience in service development, pathway redesign and implementing change
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate complex information to patients, clinicians and leaders
- Influence, negotiate and support change across professional groups
- Independent ability to perform, interpret and advise on complex cardiac investigations
- Analyse complex clinical data and performance information
- Experience with clinical systems, databases and Microsoft Office
