A vacancy has arisen for an External Cleaner to join the Patient Services Department at QA Hospital.
SHIFTS: 12.00pm to 8.00pm - Monday to Friday
Candidates will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions as part of their duties. A full uniform and any required personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided. Enthusiasm and flexibility are essential qualities required.
Patient Services provides a comprehensive cleaning service across QA Hospital. This includes the cleaning in all wards, departments, communal areas, and residential accommodation, as well as the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the hospital grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
The post is monthly paid. The successful applicants will receive a first-class training package, which incorporates on and off the job training with the use of large machinery. Other benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement and the opportunity to join the NHS pension scheme.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) form will need to be completed.

Main duties of the job:
- Collection and disposal of clinical and domestic waste from the grounds and residences and other areas as directed.
- The sweeping of the hospital entrances and pathways, roadways, and car parks and any other areas requested on site.
- Emptying of bins and replacing bin bags.
- Clearance of leaf litter, cigarette butts, and other litter from around the site.
- To carry out minor maintenance tasks within the hospital grounds for which training has been provided, i.e. grounds small equipment, including cleaning of this equipment.
- Ability to work on own initiative, at times unsupervised and to respond to requests in a polite manner.
- Lift and transport furniture, stores, and stock as required; occasionally these can be very heavy desks, cabinets, and boxes.
- Any other duties in accordance with the needs of the service and as detailed in the service specification.
- Staff may be allocated to specific hospitals/areas of work, but will remain flexible and can be transferred at the discretion of the Patient Services Manager and Supervisors.
- Excellent communication skills to defuse situations that can lead to occasional abusive or violent situations.
- This includes controlling and pacifying patients and relatives whilst waiting for security to attend any incident.
- Carry out the movement of beds, chairs, and equipment during a Major Incident or Fire as directed.
