Overview
As a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at Cygnet Taunton, you will provide senior medical cover for Blackbird Ward and act as Responsible Clinician, overseeing inpatient care and ensuring GMC-compliant medical practice. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated neuropsychiatric care for adults with complex neurocognitive conditions, driving high-quality treatment and clinical governance. The role offers progression to Medical Director level through management schemes and a supportive team. This is a mission-driven opportunity to shape specialized inpatient pathways and improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Lead on high-quality care for Blackbird ward service users
- Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team
- Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
- Perform investigations, diagnosis and treatment
- Conduct ward rounds, reviews and clinical audits
- Implement risk assessment and clinical governance
- supervise Mental Health Act tribunal reports and attend hearings
- Liaise with Ministry of Justice for transfers/leaves as required
- Maintain patient records and ensure regular communication with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
- Attend academic meetings and contribute to CPD standards set by GMC/DoH/RCPsych
- Contribute to on-call rota
Key requirements
- Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent)
- Registered on specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
- Strong communicator with ability to assess, interview and write medical notes
- Committed to continued professional development
