Mental Health Practitioner - Early Intervention Team in Tamworth

Our Early Intervention Team is one of the top-performing teams in the country. Clinicians in our team hold smaller caseloads that enable people to deliver the quality of care that they aspire to. This post will predominantly be covering the East of the patch, which includes Lichfield, Tamworth, Burton on Trent and surrounding areas. However, the team as a whole provides input to people across South Staffordshire, working out of team bases across the Trust, as well as people's homes, GP surgeries, other public settings, and inpatient settings. Therefore, the successful applicant must be willing to travel across the geographical area where required.

The Early Intervention Service supports individuals for up to 3 years who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis, are typically presenting for the first time to mental health services and have either not yet received any treatment or have been treated for less than a year. The service is designed to encourage access and provide treatment to predominantly a young service user group, but also spans an age ranging up to 65. It embraces a culturally sensitive approach, adopting a bio/psycho/social approach and assertive outreach style therefore the team composition is suited to this target group.

You will be required to contribute to assessments of people who are referred to the service, working alongside other members of the team and in partnership with the person, their families/carers and other services and professionals involved. You will act as care co-ordinator to a clinical caseload who have been assessed and accepted onto caseload by the service, and will also be expected to contribute to a team approach in relation to meeting service users and their family's needs. You will act as an autonomous practitioner in aspects of their role, agreeing care plans with service users and the multi-disciplinary team involved. Referring to the team leader and senior practitioners where necessary, but in particular in relation to high profile and very complex cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the relevant professional registration and have a passion for working with people with mental health needs. You should also have excellent communication skills and be committed to providing high quality care to our patients.

Qualifications:

• Essential: Registered mental health professional (e.g. Nurse or Occupational Therapist) active on relevant professional register.
• Desirable: Psychological interventions qualification (CBT, EMDR, CAT, DBT, Family Therapy).

Experience:

• Essential: Evidence of extensive post-registration experience of working with adults experiencing mental health related difficulties.
• Experience of working with people who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs.
• Experience of assessing, planning, co-ordinating and managing people with mental health problems in a community setting.
• Desirable: Experience of leading CPA process.
