Overview
In this role you will provide a comprehensive general paediatric service across inpatient, day-case, outpatient and emergency settings. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to drive service development, patient flow and high-quality care for children and families. A key focus is expanding paediatric respiratory services and pathways, with opportunities to lead quality improvement and governance activities. You will contribute to teaching, leadership and safeguarding while supporting junior staff and trainees. This role offers a clinically led environment with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement to better local care.
Responsibilities
- Deliver general paediatric care across inpatient, ambulatory, outpatient and emergency settings
- Participate in on-call rota including out-of-hours and weekend coverage
- Develop paediatric respiratory services, including outpatient activity and pathway design
- Collaborate with paediatric, neonatal, ED, community and multi-professional colleagues to ensure high-quality care
- Provide clinical leadership, manage patient flow, escalation, discharge planning and service improvement
- Contribute to governance activities such as audits, incident reviews, complaints, risk management and quality improvement
- Supervise and support junior medical staff and promote safe practice
- Teach, supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate learners
- Maintain appraisal, revalidation, CPD and job planning requirements
- Comply with Trust policies and GMC Good Medical Practice
- Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion
- Undertake duties related to a specialist interest in paediatric respiratory care
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Specialist GMC registration with MRCP/MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- CCT in general paediatrics
- At least 2 years of general paediatric training; usually 5 years of Higher Specialist Training
- Broad experience in acute paediatrics and ability to lead a multi-professional team
- Ability to organise and manage clinical workload; experience in partnership working with Social Services and Education
- Teaching capability with undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees
- Ability to translate research into clinical practice; interest in clinical research or trials is desirable
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, GPs and colleagues; commitment to CME and clinical governance
