Overview
In this Specialty Doctor role, you provide medical input and clinical leadership to the Liaison Psychiatry team at East Surrey Hospital. You will influence service delivery across Surrey’s major hospitals, working with a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose and manage mental health referrals. The role focuses on appropriate interventions, discharge planning, and cross-system communication to integrate mental and physical health care. This is an opportunity to shape a longstanding liaison service and make a meaningful impact on patient care and pathways.

Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and manage referrals for Liaison Psychiatry in adults
- Provide medical expertise and support to East Surrey Hospital staff
- Support the liaison team in selecting appropriate interventions
- Facilitate discharge planning and timely communication with Primary Care, Neighbourhood Teams and Inpatient Services
- Conduct clinical assessments and psychiatric treatment directly or via supervision of team members
Key requirements
- MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
- Full medical registration with license to practice
- GMC registration with license to practise at time of appointment
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6–12 months) or equivalent
- Desirable MRCPsych or equivalent; relevant higher degree; management/leadership interest
