Overview
In this role you will join a growing palliative medicine team to deliver high-quality medical care to patients across hospice, hospital, and community settings. You will help develop integrated services within the regional ICS and predominantly support community palliative care. The post offers research and teaching opportunities, plus mentoring and flexible planning to suit a 0.9 WTE contract. You will work closely with a broad multidisciplinary team to improve patient care and contribute to service development and governance. This is an exciting opportunity to shape regional palliative care delivery in Ipswich and East Suffolk.

Responsibilities
- On-call duties according to NHS terms with a 1 in 8 frequency and 5% availability supplement
- Supervise junior medical staff and ensure adherence to policies and guidelines
- Liaise effectively with all disciplines involved in palliative and end-of-life care
- Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
- Establish outpatient clinics and day services; conduct domiciliary visits as required
- Co-manage admission, inpatient care, and discharge of hospice patients
- Maintain and develop knowledge and skills relevant to the post
- Support education and training in palliative care across hospital and community settings
- Initiate and participate in research projects; engage in audit and quality improvement
- Represent the Hospice on local and national bodies; participate in governance
- Engage in CPD and revalidation processes with support from the organisation
Key requirements
- Registered medical qualification MRCP, MRCGP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration and name on Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine on appointment
- Wide experience in palliative care; capable of entering GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European rights
- Experience in procedures such as paracentesis
- Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills
- Day-to-day organisation of specialist services; audit and quality improvement experience
- Willingness to mentor, teach, and lead in research activities
- Valid driving licence (essential for day-to-day work)
