Overview
In this role you will provide high-quality ophthalmology care within CHEC’s community services, supervise allied clinicians, and contribute to a growing NHS-based network. You’ll work across general ophthalmology, glaucoma, AMD, laser procedures, and cataract surgery, including high-volume phacoemulsification. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and influence service delivery through governance and CPD.

Responsibilities
- conduct ophthalmology consultations and surgeries within CHEC services
- supervise delivery of adult community ophthalmology by other professionals
- provide high-quality clinical care in general ophthalmology, glaucoma, AMD, and laser therapy
- perform minor eye operations and high-volume phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia if applicable
- participate in reviewing and updating job plan with Clinical Director at least annually
Key requirements
- UK registered Medical Degree or equivalent
- MRCOphth/FRCOphth/FRCS
- Full or Specialist GMC Registration
- up-to-date with current medical practice
- wide training and experience in general ophthalmology
- ability to offer expert clinical opinion on general ophthalmology
- independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- understanding of audit and Clinical Governance
- knowledge of evidence-based practice
- multidisciplinary team working
- excellent communication skills
- flexible, objective and assertive
- strong verbal and written communication
- evidence of continuing professional development
- ability to travel independently to all hospital sites within a region
- willing to meet volume and clinical productivity targets
