Overview

In this role you lead the Plain Film service within a busy general radiography department, ensuring safe, high-quality imaging and efficient patient flow. You supervise radiographers and support staff, drive service improvement, and uphold clinical governance. You will collaborate with radiologists and other teams to optimise patient pathways, while maintaining your own clinical practice and professional remains. This is a key leadership position in a mission-driven NHS environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operation of the Plain Film service across designated areas
  • Supervise, support and develop radiographers and support staff
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, radiation safety and image quality
  • Coordinate staffing, workload, and service delivery to meet targets
  • Contribute to appraisal, performance management and workforce planning
  • Support education, training and professional development of staff and students
  • Monitor and improve clinical practice via audits, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and Trust policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with radiologists, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient pathways and service efficiency
  • Maintain an active clinical role and model professional practice

Key requirements

  • HCPC Registration
  • MSc/BSc Diagnostic Radiography or relevant diploma
  • Relevant postgraduate training or specialist courses in radiography practice
  • Desirable: Leadership or management qualification
  • Significant post-registration experience within General Radiography/Plain Film
  • Leadership and team development
  • Communication and collaboration
  • Clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Advanced clinical competence in plain film radiography
  • Image quality assessment and corrective actions
  • Knowledge of HCPC standards, SOR guidance, IR(ME)R, IRR17
