Clinical Psychologist - Early Intervention in Psychosis in Southampton

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical psychologist in the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team in Southampton. We are seeking candidates with a commitment to working with people with psychosis and their families and carers. The EIP team provides timely support to service users in Southampton in line with national and local guidelines for people experiencing first episode psychosis. We are looking for an engaging, enthusiastic, and focused individual who is committed to working with a diverse, multi-cultural community.

You will join a CBT Therapist in bringing psychologically-informed care to people experiencing first episode psychosis. You will offer direct input to service users and their families as well as providing supervision, consultation, and training to the team. You will also contribute to service development and research. You will work closely with colleagues in local services and across the Trust. You will also be part of Southampton Psychological Services (SPS), a large well-established psychological therapies team. We are a friendly and supportive team with a wealth of expertise including CBT, family interventions, DBT, CAT, ACT, and EMDR. We have good supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as strong academic links.

Main duties of the job

• The postholder is a member of the multi-professional team and will be linked with the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team. They will be required to work as an autonomous, independent practitioner responsible for their own work and interventions and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies in providing a highly specialist psychological service to individuals referred to the EIP Team.
• This may include working with families / carers or other identified persons where appropriate. Individuals will primarily present with complex psychological problems that would benefit from the services of the EIP Team.
• The postholder will undertake complex assessments, offer consultancy, and provide expert advice to colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers.
• The postholder will provide specialist treatment for complex cases and plan and prioritise their own clinical workload.
• The postholder will be expected to comment on and propose changes to policy or service development within the divisional psychological service and team as necessary.
• The postholder will provide specialist supervision for trainee psychologists and provide psychological guidance and supervision for multi-professional clinical colleagues.
• They will engage in research and development, and cultivate and encourage a research ethos within the wider clinical team.
• The postholder will use research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Person Specification

• Qualifications
• Doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
• Registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
• Further training in specialist psychological therapies relevant to people with psychosis, specifically Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and/or Family Intervention.
