Overview
In this role you contribute to safe, high-quality imaging and interventional services within a growing Medical Physics team. You will support X-ray quality assurance, radiation protection, and dose optimisation while collaborating with MPEs, RPAs, and clinical staff. You will lead local quality control and mentor trainees, with opportunities to contribute to research and service improvement. The role offers development opportunities in a supportive, innovative NHS environment and a chance to shape medical physics across Somerset.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert support in X-ray quality assurance and radiation protection for diagnostic radiology
- Collaborate with Medical Physics Experts and Radiation Protection Advisers to ensure safety testing, dose optimisation, and regulatory compliance
- Lead the local Quality Control programme with support from senior colleagues
- Train and mentor trainee Clinical Scientists and Technologists
- Participate in research, development, and service improvement projects with potential national/international dissemination
Key requirements
- BSc (Hons) in Physics or equivalent
- Higher degree (eg MSc, MPhil, PhD) or equivalent
- Has completed and passed the NHS Scientist Training Programme or on track to complete within six months
- Current or in-training state registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC
- Significant experience across the full range of Medical Physics work
