Overview
In this role you will prepare high-quality, homemade meals in a large hospital kitchen, supporting patient care and staff wellbeing. Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes from fresh ingredients following Trust recipes and menus
- Ensure accurate cooking, presentation, and portion control aligned with forecasts
- Support function and event catering as needed
- Collaborate with Head Chef to accommodate dietary requirements
- Maintain clear communication with patients, staff, suppliers, and Trust teams
- Contribute to menu planning and development
- Carry out audits and surveys relevant to the role
- Uphold kitchen hygiene, food safety, and cleaning standards
- Record food temperatures and follow departmental procedures
- Manage stock with proper rotation, storage, and security
- Promote efficient use of resources and comply with financial procedures
Key requirements
- Experience as a chef in a high-quality catering setting
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to excellent food quality, safety, and presentation
- Confidence to resolve day-to-day operational issues
- Positive, courteous, professional approach
- Understanding of HACCP (knowledge)
- Experience progression in a similar NHS/catering operation (desirable)
- Good knowledge of food safety / kitchen hygiene
- Good command of written and spoken English
