Overview
In this role you will lead and develop the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory, ensuring high-quality technical performance, training and staff deployment. You will work within a compassionate NHS team delivering a 24/7 service and will help drive service improvements and innovation. The role combines expert bench work with people management and training responsibilities to support clinicians and patients. This appointment offers opportunities to influence quality and training across the department and across sites.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deploy staff within assigned sections
- Lead the Blood Transfusion sections and ensure high standards of technical performance
- oversee training and CPD within the area of expertise
- deputise for the Deputy Head BMS and provide cover for senior staff
- Provide highly specialist advice to clinicians and service users
- Deliver specialist Diploma level training within area of expertise
- Undertake equipment evaluation and select methodologies/adapt procedures
- Drive service improvements and innovation within the specialist section
- Ensure adherence to local policies (health and safety, HR) in your section
Key requirements
- BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Sciences (IBMS approved)
- MSc in relevant discipline or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Relevant IBMS Specialist Diploma(s) or equivalent
- Evidence of CPD
- Minimum five years post-registration experience in an NHS environment or equivalent
- Experience in managing/supervising junior staff and students
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and laboratory accreditation
- Proven ability to work autonomously and lead specialist sections
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
