Overview
In this role you will lead SaTH and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust’s Legal Services, providing expert litigation advice in a patient-focused environment. You will manage clinical negligence claims, inquests, and other judicial processes, while supervising the Legal Services Team and delivering training to clinicians. You will shape the legal strategy across two organisations and prepare for complex governance and court proceedings. This is a leadership position that combines risk management, advocacy, and high-stakes communication to support safe, compassionate care.
Responsibilities
- Investigate clinical and non-clinical claims
- Attend Court and Coroner's Court; provide advocacy for SaTH and ShropCom
- Provide professional leadership and day-to-day supervision of the Legal Services Team
- Offer advice and training on specialist litigation issues to clinical and other staff
- Attend inquests and other judicial process meetings and hearings
- Collaborate across two organisations to advise staff and management on legal risk and governance
- Prepare the trust for relevant judicial processes, including court of protection
Key requirements
- Extensive knowledge of legal framework for risk management and its relation to clinical governance
- Significant senior-level NHS or equivalent experience
- Excellent understanding of links with external organisations (Coroners, Police)
- Desirable knowledge of patient administration systems
- Experience in training healthcare professionals
- Experience in managing a Legal Services team
- Qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister
