You'll provide medical leadership, work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team, and deliver high-quality care for patients with complex mental health needs.

Main duties of the job:
- The role involves comprehensive clinical responsibilities, including assessing new referrals, conducting medical reviews, and participating in multidisciplinary meetings.
- The consultant will undertake home visits when necessary, contribute to case reviews, and provide expert advice to GPs, liaison teams, and hospitals.
- Additional duties include preparing reports for mental health tribunals, supporting research projects, supervising nurse prescribers, and participating in emergency assessments as part of the on-call rota.
- The post also encompasses involvement in teaching, clinical audit, service evaluation, and maintaining accurate clinical records, ensuring high standards of patient care and professional practice.

Person Specification:
- Training & Qualifications: Essential: Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (ST6 trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent. Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion. Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approval and Approved Clinician.
- Knowledge & Skills: Essential: Effective leadership skills, ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers, ability to supervise junior staff, awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments, ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
- Experience: Essential: Experience in Older Age Psychiatry, excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective, experience to a level allowing recognition of trainer status by the Royal College of Psychiatrist, experience in teaching undergraduates & postgraduates, evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance.
- Other: Essential: Ability to exercise effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary team, understanding of importance of multi-disciplinary service provision and the care programme approach, understanding of and ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users to promote recovery, sensitivity to needs of different ethnic and minority groups, awareness of gender issues in the service provision, highly effective communication skills.
