Overview
In this role you will provide both adult and paediatric neurosurgical care within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, contributing to the ongoing development of the paediatric and epilepsy services. You will share in emergency cover and ensure continuous care across the department, working with consultant colleagues to maintain high standards. The post supports flexible arrangements, including part-time options, with a focus on innovation and a patient-centered approach. A meaningful opportunity to shape services across a major NHS trust.

Responsibilities
- Provide adult neurosurgical services for the trust and paediatric neurosurgical services for the children’s hospital
- Handle routine workload in adult neurosurgery and contribute to paediatric sub-specialty
- Share equal responsibility for emergency cover and colleague absence coverage
- Maintain continuous responsibility for patients under care and ensure proper departmental functioning
- Work under the terms of the consultant contract
- Participate in service development and commissioning activities as required
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Name on Specialist Register or eligible within 6 months of interview; UK-trained applicants should have CCT or be near to CCT
- Royal College of Surgeons Intercollegiate Examination in Neurosurgery or equivalent
- Experience in a tertiary neurosurgical unit and ability to work as an independent practitioner
- Experience in complex epilepsy surgery and routine spinal surgery
- Ability to provide teaching and supervision across training levels
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary teamwork
- Registration with or eligibility for UK specialist register and Immigration compliance considered for non-UK applicants
- Good oral and written communication
- Patient-centered, professional and responsible clinical practice
- Effective teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment
- Expertise in general neurosurgery and paediatric neurosurgery
- Experience with adult spinal surgery
- Competence in managing emergency cases in both adult and paediatric neurosurgery
