We are looking to appoint to whole time (10PAs) substantive Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Emergency and Musculoskeletal (MSK) Imaging within the Medical Imaging and Medical Physics Directorate of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Northern General Hospital (NGH), Sheffield.
The Diagnostic Imaging Service is recruiting to one post in order to support acute US, CT and MRI and elective MSK imaging. The successful candidate will join the existing team of 9 MSK radiologists as part of the 57 NHS and 3 University radiologists within the Directorate.
The candidate is expected to have a major interest in MSK Imaging as well as an ability to provide support for the acute CT service for inpatient and Emergency Department patients, and general radiology activity across the Trust.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job include:
- Specialising in emergency radiology at the Northern General Hospital, with an interest in musculoskeletal imaging and intervention.
- Providing acute CT, MRI and ultrasound cover for orthopaedics, oncology, rheumatology, general inpatient, major trauma and emergency department patients, as well as elective musculoskeletal outpatient work.
- Contributing to the general radiology workload at the Northern General Hospital.
- Being part of a cross site 1 in 14 on-call rota covering both the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire Hospitals.
The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the MSK and wider diagnostic Imaging team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive emergency and musculoskeletal radiology service within this teaching hospital environment.
The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise. Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. FRCR or equivalent.
- Continuous Professional Development: Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
- Clinical experience: Ability to work as an independent practitioner in trauma imaging, acute CT and musculoskeletal imaging. Possess broad clinical experience in emergency and general CT, ultrasound and MRI. Subspecialty interest in Musculoskeletal imaging, with a career focus in these areas.
- Teaching and training: Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.
- Management and Administration: Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
- Clinical governance and audit: Experience in performing clinical audit.
- Personal attributes: Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values. Good oral and written communication skills. Proficient IT skills.
- Research: Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
