Overview

In this role you support the nursing team in a large GP practice, delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining a safe clinical environment. You work across clinical and administrative tasks to keep patient flow smooth and care coordinated. You will assist with basic health checks, room preparation, and patient communication, contributing to clinical excellence and innovative patient care. This position offers learning opportunities and autonomous work within a supportive, team-focused setting. You will be at the heart of delivering reliable, person-centered care in a busy primary care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care
  • Conduct basic health checks (vital signs, patient histories)
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms for consultations
  • Support minor procedures as directed by healthcare professionals
  • Record/update patient information in electronic health records
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, prescriptions, and other administrative tasks
  • Maintain infection control standards and hygiene
  • Communicate clearly with patients and provide reassurance
  • Collaborate with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals; participate in team discussions

Key requirements

  • Proven experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a GP or primary care setting
  • Qualifications and certifications in healthcare assistance
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of working within a nursing team
  • Desirable: GCSEs English and Maths at A-C; Phlebotomy qualification
