Overview
In this role you will support the Ward Manager to lead nursing care on the John Denmark Unit, a deaf specialist 18‑bed unit.
You will supervise shifts, act as a primary nurse, and ensure clear communication with the care team and external stakeholders.
You will drive clinical development through coaching, supervision, and ward training.
You contribute to a culture of openness, learning and high standards of care within a multidisciplinary setting.

- 30% additional for evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays
- 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays
- 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 after 10 years

Responsibilities
- Deputise for the ward manager as required
- Lead nursing issues within a multidisciplinary team
- Support communication with Deaf patients (BSL skills desirable)
- Supervise junior staff and mentor new and less experienced staff
- Oversee medication management and physical health provision on the ward
- Assist with HR tasks such as wellbeing monitoring and audits
- Manage shifts as nurse in charge
- Conduct risk assessments and risk management plans for incidents
- Participate in 24-hour rotation of day and night shifts
- Carry out a full range of caring duties including moving and handling and training in control and restraint
- Key requirements
- RMN/RNLD registration or equivalent
- Mental health experience and leadership skills
- Desirable: Deaf MH setting experience or qualifications
- Must be willing to participate in 24-hour rotation

- Good communication skills (BSL Level 1/2 training provided)
