Overview

In this role you will provide specialist forensic psychiatric care as a Consultant, overseeing a defined inpatient caseload and contributing to a new model of care. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality assessments, treatment, and discharge planning, while shaping secure services for adults in Greater Manchester. The position includes on-call duties and a variety of clinical activities aligned with service development. This is a chance to influence patient experience and clinical practice within a forward-looking Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Responsible Clinician for a defined inpatient caseload
  • Manage inpatient care from admission to discharge for male and/or female inpatients
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the new model of care
  • Provide on-call cover and conduct access assessments to the service
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (medical secretary, junior doctors, psychologist, social worker, OT, nursing staff) and coordinate with visiting GP, dentist, and physical health team
  • Engage in negotiation with consultant colleagues to determine service scope and activities
  • Participate in additional clinical activities as arranged within the new care model

Key requirements

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC; included on the Specialist Register or within six months
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) held in line with post requirements
  • Current UK professional registration and eligibility for Skilled Worker sponsorship (where applicable)
  • Strong communication within multidisciplinary teams
