Overview
In this role you will provide specialist forensic psychiatric care as a Consultant, overseeing a defined inpatient caseload and contributing to a new model of care. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality assessments, treatment, and discharge planning, while shaping secure services for adults in Greater Manchester. The position includes on-call duties and a variety of clinical activities aligned with service development. Responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Clinician for a defined inpatient caseload
- Manage inpatient care from admission to discharge for male and/or female inpatients
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the new model of care
- Provide on-call cover and conduct access assessments to the service
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (medical secretary, junior doctors, psychologist, social worker, OT, nursing staff) and coordinate with visiting GP, dentist, and physical health team
- Engage in negotiation with consultant colleagues to determine service scope and activities
- Participate in additional clinical activities as arranged within the new care model
Key requirements
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- In good standing with GMC; included on the Specialist Register or within six months
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) held in line with post requirements
- Current UK professional registration and eligibility for Skilled Worker sponsorship (where applicable)
