Overview
In this role you deliver urgent primary medical care within a 24/7 urgent care network at Royal Preston and Chorley Hospitals. You’ll work as part of a proactive medical team to provide timely face-to-face or remote assessments, with potential for telephone triage and home visits as you develop. You will support urgent care pathways and coordinate with colleagues to ensure safe, efficient care. This is a values‑driven setting focused on patient impact and career development.

Responsibilities
- Provide timely clinical care (advice or face-to-face) to urgent care patients on shift
- Refer patients to relevant services (secondary care, community) when appropriate
- Communicate with Clinical Shift Leads and Senior Care Co-ordinators to ensure smooth shifts
- Prioritise and manage all consultations on shift for timeliness
- Collaborate with colleagues to maximize efficient care delivery
- Work within prescribing formulary and consider minimum treatment durations
- Provide clinical advice to internal/external staff as required
- Represent the organisation professionally to the public and professionals
- Support urgent care pathways and community alternatives to admission (e.g., DVT, ATT/PATS)
- Assist streaming of patients to/from co-located A&E services
- On-call shifts (optional): respond within 5 minutes, attend within 1 hour
- Maintain professional registration and complete mandatory training
- Identify training needs and pursue relevant courses
- Participate in NHS appraisal and revalidation
- Adhere to organisational policies and contribute to strategic urgent care developments
- Involve in teaching/training of other health professionals
- Report service delivery issues to management
- Participate in audits of clinical and patient services
- Perform other duties as required by line manager
Key requirements
- GMC Registration with current license to practice
- Computer literacy and ability to use clinical systems and decision support
- Experience in telephone consultations with clear communication
- Holistic patient care approach
- Flexible, adaptable, problem-solving, and team-oriented
- Ability to establish rapport and work autonomously
- Professional representation of the organisation
- Ability to work across OOH periods and treatment centres
- Experience in urgent primary care and common medical, surgical, psychiatric emergencies
- Minimum 3 years in A&E (ED) as Specialty Doctor / Associate Specialist
- Desirable familiarity with ADASTRA
- Excellent communication and listening
