Overview
In this role you will provide 24/7 advisory support for infection management within a busy NHS infection service. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to ward rounds, MDTs, and clinical liaison, while rotating rounds with the antimicrobial pharmacist and other specialists. You will be involved in OPAT management, undergraduate teaching, and supervision of Higher Specialist Scientific Training. You will participate in on-call rotas and maintain high professional standards, developing links with general practitioners. This is an opportunity to influence infection care pathways and education within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide infection management input and contribute to Microbiology MDT meetings
- Participate in joint ward rounds with Antimicrobial Pharmacist and other specialist units, as agreed
- Be involved in management of patients on the OPAT service
- Involve in undergraduate teaching of medical students
- Supervise Higher Specialist Scientific Training
- Participate in the Infection Service on-call rota (1 in 6)
- Maintain continuous commitment to patient care and manage leave/off-duty arrangements
- Promote high professional standards and continuing professional development
- Develop links with General Practitioners in the area
Key requirements
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification
- GMC full and specialist registration (or eligible within 6 months)
- CCT in microbiology or joint CCT in infectious diseases and microbiology (or within six months of award)
- UK trained: evidence of CCT; non-UK: evidence of UK-equivalent
