Overview
In deze rol als Consultant in Cellular Pathology at Royal Preston Hospital you will deliver a comprehensive histopathology service and contribute to cancer services through specialist interests. You will lead lab administration, staff rostering and cross-disciplinary coordination, and participate in governance and board discussions. The role includes research activity, leadership development and mentorship as part of the trust’s culture. The position offers a stable full‑time, on‑site role with no on-call requirements and opportunities to shape service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive histopathology service within the department
- Recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, BMSs and secretarial staff
- Organise staff rosters and allocate duties, including staff instruction on organisational matters
- Coordinate with other professional disciplines and external healthcare workers
- Attend Board meetings and committees to discuss pathology issues and participate in resource management
- Maintain continuing management responsibility for the service and administrative duties, with delegation as appropriate
Key requirements
- Wide range of experience in Histopathology and Non-Gynae Cytology
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise; MBChB or equivalent; FRCPath
- UK trained: CCT (or within six months of award) or evidence of UK equivalence; non-UK trained ≤ evidence of equivalence
- Desirable: interest in Dermatopathology, Oral/Head and Neck pathology; autopsy qualifications
- Excellent communication and organisational skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
- Resident within 30 minutes travel to Preston
