Overview
In this role you will lead consultant-level anaesthetic care at Greater Lancashire Hospital, contributing to perioperative services and surgical growth within a growing healthcare organisation. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, safe anaesthesia and participate in governance, teaching, and service development. This position offers scope to shape future perioperative pathways and drive improvements in patient outcomes. A strong focus on collaboration, clinical leadership and evidence-based practice underpins the role.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led anaesthesia for elective surgery and procedures
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessment and optimisation
- Deliver safe perioperative care and participate in enhanced recovery programmes
- Develop patient-centred pathways and collaborate with surgeons, ODPs, nursing teams and allied health professionals
- Contribute to theatre efficiency and utilisation
- Engage in clinical governance, audits, incident review and learning
- Ensure compliance with CQC standards and maintain accurate records
- Provide visible clinical leadership and mentor junior staff
- Support service redesign, strategic planning and educational activities
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and research activities
Key requirements
- Broad experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist
- Experience delivering anaesthesia independently
- Experience in perioperative assessment and enhanced recovery
- Evidence of multidisciplinary working
- Audit and quality improvement experience
- FRCA or equivalent; CCT in Anaesthesia or eligibility for Specialist Register entry
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- Excellent communication skills
