Overview

As the POCT Coordinator, you will lead the Trust-wide Point of Care Testing service and provide professional leadership to the POCT team. You will ensure governance, QA, and policy implementation across multiple locations, while guiding incident investigations and equipment validation. This role combines operational management with strategic development to expand POCT capabilities in a large hospital setting. You will collaborate with clinicians, nursing staff, and procurement to deliver a high-quality, safe service that supports patient care. The position offers a chance to shape service transformation and educate clinical users, contributing to the Trust’s research and innovation agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Trust-wide POCT service's operational delivery
  • Provide professional leadership and day-to-day management of the POCT team
  • Maintain governance, QA, and QA systems across POCT locations
  • Develop, review, and implement POCT policies and SOPs
  • Oversee internal/external quality control, audit programs, and incident investigations
  • Manage POCT equipment implementation, validation, verification, and replacement
  • Act as Trust expert for POCT, advising clinicians and senior managers
  • Deliver education, competency assessment, and ongoing training for clinical users
  • Participate in service improvement, innovation, and research
  • Support business cases for new POCT services and emerging technologies

Key requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences
  • HCPC registration
  • MSc in Biomedical Science or FIBMS
  • Significant diagnostic laboratory experience
  • Specialist knowledge and practical experience in POCT
  • Experience supervising, supporting, training, and supervising staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Initiative and self-motivation
  • Experience with highly complex automated equipment
  • Quality management systems and laboratory QA
  • Technical verification of assays, reagents, and equipment
