Overview
In this Consultant role, you will provide comprehensive Audiovestibular services across adult and paediatric patients at multiple sites, aligning with ENT and Audiology to deliver diagnostic and rehabilitative care. You will contribute to teaching, audit and research while shaping local care pathways in line with national guidelines. The post supports succession planning for a retiring colleague and supports a broad range of dizziness, hearing, balance and tinnitus care. Responsibilities
- Run out-patient clinics for adults and children at Queen Alexandra Hospital and St Richards Hospital and in community settings
- Prioritize referrals from GPs, ENT, Audiology, geriatrics, neurology, paediatrics and A&E/MAU
- See patients with progressive/ fluctuating hearing loss and tinnitus requiring medical input; manage dizziness/balance disorders
- Develop local care pathways for Audiovestibular disorders in line with Department of Health, NICE and national guidelines
- See babies from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme and older children for aetiological investigations
- Teach Medical Students from the University of Portsmouth Medical School; participate in teaching, audit and research
- Collaborate with ENT and Audiology to deliver comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services
- Contribute to a family-friendly ethos within the service
Key requirements
- Medical qualification registered with the GMC
- Entry onto Specialist Register for GMC or within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST in Audiovestibular Medicine or equivalent
- Appropriate higher medical qualification (e.g., MRCP/MRCS or equivalent)
- Essential clinical experience and skills in all aspects of Audiovestibular Medicine
