Overview
In this role you will support a compassionate bereavement service, acting as the first point of contact for relatives and coordinating with clinical and external stakeholders. You’ll ensure sensitive, accurate administration and clear guidance throughout the bereavement process. Working across sites, you’ll help maintain high standards and continual improvement of procedures. This position offers meaningful frontline impact within NHS bereavement services.

Responsibilities
- Act as initial contact for relatives of deceased patients with empathy and professionalism
- Provide guidance to colleagues and external partners (MEOs, funeral directors, registrars, staff)
- Deliver responsive, compassionate service to bereaved families
- Communicate effectively in sensitive discussions and overcome misunderstandings
- Respond to routine queries and identify solutions within defined protocols
- Liaise with clinical staff to ensure legal documentation for burial/cremation is accurate and timely
- Support development and improvement of departmental protocols and processes
- Plan and organise day-to-day activities to maintain a coordinated service
Key requirements
- Experience in Healthcare/NHS
- Demonstrable admin experience and knowledge of office procedures
- Experience working in a people-centred environment and with the public
- Commitment to personal and professional development
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- GCSE level of education or equivalent
- Secretarial skills via NVQ3 or equivalent
- Keyboard skills to RSA level 3
- Tact and diplomacy handling highly sensitive issues
