Overview
In this role you will lead and supervise the Immunology laboratory within a training-focused, patient-centred NHS department. You will work with the Immunology Laboratory Manager and specialists to maintain high standards of care, safety, and service quality. The role emphasizes ongoing education, professional development, and contributing to clinical excellence in Immunology. This position offers hands-on clinical responsibilities and a clear path to leadership within a supportive, cross-functional team.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the Immunology laboratory and support staff development
- Contribute to service development within a progressive department
- Ensure practice aligns with UKAS standards and HCPC requirements
- Participate in 24/7 rota for Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory if required
- Engage in quality control, audits and continuous improvement activities
- Represent the department at internal meetings
- Maintain and apply knowledge of laboratory information systems and IT tools
Key requirements
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma (Immunology) or MSc in Biomedical Sciences or FIBMS status
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology
- Sound knowledge of Immunology practice with theoretical and practical experience
- Competence in an automated laboratory environment
- Awareness of ISO15189 and quality management concepts
- Experience with CAPA/DATIX investigations and health and safety practices
- Good verbal and written communication in English
- Self-motivated and team-oriented
- Ability to manage own and others’ work and rotas
- Competence in a broad range of Immunology techniques
- Interpretation and validation of results
- Technical problem solving (equipment failure, QC issues)
