Overview
In this Consultant Psychiatrist role, you will lead and participate in a senior clinical team delivering high-quality care for older adults experiencing acute mental health crises. You’ll shape service development with non-medical leaders, while safeguarding safe, compassionate patient experiences. You will work across the Older Adults Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team and Dementia Intensive Support Service, balancing clinical duties with teaching, supervision, and quality improvement. Responsibilities
- Lead and actively participate in clinical and operational development of the service
- Perform clinical audits and implement outcome measures as part of quality improvement
- Engage in service development and wider Trust initiatives
- Provide evidence-based interventions and ensure compliance with Trust policies and NICE standards
- Liaise with patients, carers, colleagues, GPs and voluntary/statutory organisations for coordinated care
- Complete timely administrative tasks including accurate clinical activity recording and KPI/CQUIN requirements
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; supervise staff from other disciplines
- Provide clinical supervision to junior doctors
- Maintain GMC registration and relevant approvals; uphold professional conduct
- Comply with policies and financial instructions; support planning for services
- Offer supervision to medical and non-medical staff
- Travel between Trust sites and to community-based work as required
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- Approved Clinician Status or eligible for training
- MRCPsych (desirable)
- CCT in relevant specialty or near attainment; equivalent GMC-recognised experience
- Experience of multi-disciplinary working and teaching/supervision of doctors in training
- Knowledge of mental health policy and legislation; decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Management skills and ability to take clinical lead
- Ability to travel and represent the department at Trust-wide meetings
